WSDC 2027 HK Team Trials

Applications are now open for Hong Kong’s World Schools Debating team and development squad.

The Hong Kong Debate & Speech Community (HKDSC) invites eligible students to apply for the opportunity to represent Hong Kong at the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC).

The team and development squad

We will select an initial squad of 8–10 students, from which five will be chosen to represent Hong Kong at WSDC.

We will also select a development squad of around 20 students. Applicants for this squad must have at least one further year of secondary school remaining after the current school year.

Students selected for either squad should expect approximately three to five hours of group and individual training each week and will be expected to attend competitions as part of the Hong Kong team.

Eligibility and selection

Applicants must be aged 14–19 when WSDC takes place and attend a school in Hong Kong.

Invitations to trial will be based on applicants’ debating and speaking experience. Decisions on trial invitations, squad membership and the final WSDC team will be made solely by the coaches of the Hong Kong WSDC team and development squad.

Anyone paid to coach an applicant will not judge the trials. The selection coaches will not consider recommendations or comments from those coaches.

Applications and trials

  • Application deadline: 24 October, 23:59 HKT.
  • Trial invitations: Successful applicants will be notified by 27 October.
  • Trials: Held via Zoom from 6 November.
